FROM THE VINEYARDS TO CHIANTI CLASSICO
Chianti Classico is one of Italy’s most iconic wines, a true symbol of Tuscan winemaking tradition. Its history is intertwined with the hilly landscape of Tuscany, characterized by vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see, offering breathtaking views and unique biodiversity. It is produced in 70,000 hectares of land between the cities of Siena and Firenze, in an area that encompasses eight municipalities: Greve in Chianti, Barberino Val d’Elsa, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, and San Casciano in Val di Pesa in the province of Firenze; Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole, Radda, Castelnuovo Berardenga, and part of the municipality of Poggibonsi in the province of Siena.
The journey of Chianti Classico begins in the vineyards, where the favorable climate and nutrient-rich soil create the ideal conditions for grape growth. The main varieties used in the production of this wine are Sangiovese, Canaiolo, and, in some areas, Colorino. The grapes are cultivated using environmentally friendly methods, following sustainable practices that preserve the health of the soil and the vines. During the harvest, winemakers carefully select the grapes, ensuring that only the best bunches are used in the winemaking process.
Once harvested, the grapes are taken to the winery, where the transformation begins. The winemaking process of Chianti Classico is an art that requires time and patience. After crushing, the must is fermented in stainless steel or wooden vats, where sugars are converted into alcohol. This step is crucial, as it affects the aromatic profile and body of the wine. Subsequently, the wine matures in oak barrels, during which it gains complexity and depth of flavor.
Chianti Classico is known for its bright ruby red color and intense aroma of red fruits, violets, and spices. On the palate, it offers lively freshness and soft tannins, making it a versatile wine that pairs perfectly with traditional Tuscan dishes such as ribollita, pasta with ragù, and roasted meats.
The designation “Chianti Classico” is a quality mark that guarantees not only the origin of the grapes but also compliance with strict production standards. Bottles of Chianti Classico are easily recognizable thanks to their distinctive black rooster symbol, a mark of the historical and winemaking tradition of the region.
Chianti Classico represents a journey from the vineyards to one of the most prestigious denominations of origin in Italy. Each bottle tells a story of passion, tradition, and respect for the land, inviting anyone who tastes it to discover the essence of Tuscany.
